There's an interesting article about voting machine fraud designed to sway the votes to the GOP candidate (or candidate of choice) in large cities. A retired NSA agent did the extensive research noting the discrepancies. I'm sure someone could do a study discrediting this study, but still...scary...

I have been looking into this satellite internet thing for a while because I am going to be moving off the grid in the next couple of years, and in my opinion the services offered by the various companies are very disappointing. The download cap seems to be the biggest offense. I can live with slightly less speed and some issues when it rains but the caps are going to far. Interesting that Tim didn't mention the caps in his rebuttal.

Your information is OUTDATED, and highly inaccurate. The fact that you have such poor service IS REPAIRABLE. Wildblue got rid of a LOT of really bad installers last year. They changed their whole approach to management of installs. Now WildBlue has a much tighter control on the quality of installation. And the quality of the install is EVERYTHING with any satellite service. Think of this 1 degree off on the pointing of the dish, in any direction, puts you off 130+ miles off the center of the signal from the satellite! TRUE, satellite internet will not measure up to DSL, RIGHT NOW, but that will change in the near future. Both WildBlue and Hughesnet are launching new satellites in the next year that will compete on the levels of speed, latency, and capacity, with cable. There are many dealers who represent both Hughesnet and WildBlue, and some are better than others. Want a hint? DON'T go to the first "sponsored link" when you google WildBlue. The top sponsored links are the ones paying the most to be there, so they will try to pressure sell you, as they have the highest advertising costs.

Jason, I'm a Murfreesboro based poker player, and linked here from Dr. Pauly's blog. I've invested time and money in helping the cause since the tragedy,a nd just wanted to thank you for putting this up. It was horrific to see the rain come into the city, and just sit there for two days, hardly moving at all, and when it did finally move, it was replaced by another cell, and another cell. Hopefully those affected by the flooding will be back on their feet shortly.

Great post and you covered just about everything I might ask. We are in a rural area and like some posters have said, neither cable nor DSL are willing to come out here. So we're stuck with dialup and going to the library in town where we can use their free wifi - unlimited usage I might add. We "almost" fell for the Wildblue hype until I read posts like these which tell the real nightmare of the story. They are very good help for those of us who were "thinking" of getting satellite. Now I see this would be a very stupid, expensive mistake.

Re: usage caps [which by-the-way, the aggressive wildblue salesman totally neglected to mention] and I really had to dig to find their FAP [fair access policy] which finally told the truth, buried on their website - NOT honest and upfront on the home page like you might expect. Do I think their usage caps are reasonable? Heck no! And then they throttle you down to essentially dialup speeds. Why would I want to pay a LOT more money for this service??!!!! I also LOVE the fact that they won't guarantee speeds, so they can cram many more users on their systems and still charge you big bucks. It's time we all fought back and said NO to satellite or to any other limited use internet providers. I just did that via email to the wildblue salesman who has been hassling us and you should have heard his nasty phone message back to us. NOT someone I want to ever do business with.

Thanks again for getting the word out to us. You saved this gal a LOT of grief.

Well, obviously anything I say about Darvin is a pure guess since he's so reclusive, but I think it's quite possible that if he were to win he would be able to shun the spotlight to a large degree. Chances are that he'd get roped into doing some of the standard champion PR stuff, but I don't really get the impression that he's a guy who's cut out for the role - at least not in the way that the online poker rooms and Harrah's expect their champs to be pitchmen. I'd say he probably about the same as Jerry Yang in that department.

i agree with evrything you guys are saying i am payinglike a 100 dollars a month fo wildblue i would rather go back to the park and steal the schools internet then have his crap its completely worthless and really there should be something we can do about it like sue them for neglagence and false advertiseing for reals i a going to see if can find a lawer that will take the case and fight for all us hard working americans this service is crap and the people needto know about it it has made me think i have a virus on my comp which i dont think god as i have the best antivirus money can buy thanks for listening and most of alldont get wild blue or anything that has to do with satalite unless it is dish tv and only for your tv

man, satellite net's a pain.
i live in an area, where they stop the highspeed net cables a few kilometers up the road, and they start them again a few kilometres down the road in the other direction. so basically, i'm stuck in a pretty small deadzone, which is a real kick in the pants. i could not stand dialup anymore, as i'm in highschool, and it would take forever to complete the simplest of assignments that might take ten minutes tops.
i think that we're paying around 60 or 70 a month, and with that, we get 300 mbs a day. i mean that's just sad. but, they have this wierd fair access policy thing, and between 2 and 7 am, i can download however much junk as i want. so i've gotten a download manager, but still. that's pretty inconvenient. i mean, if we're paying so much for this crap, you think that the companies would offer us a bit better service for what we're paying. friggin crooks. too bad we can't start a petition about this or something. but, it's still better than dial up. 26.6 kbs just wasnt cutting it for me anymore. at least with this, it's 100.0 mbs .
anyways. i'm done my rant.
hopefully some actual highspeed isps will run cables through this place.

One small point...the TV talking heads are only going to show the craziest of the crazy...there were some very valid points brought up in angry but restrained voices. I agree with Head, that the anger is necessary. Both political parties are just fighting for votes and not actually doing anything; well, other than consolidating power and entrenching their individual careers. It was not meant to be like this.

The full videos I've seen (as opposed to the sound bites played on the news) tend to show a politician ignoring, mocking or refusing to answer a question, then getting booed and yelled at. I'm sure some meetings have gotten out of hand, but I'd place most of the blame on our "Representatives" from what I've seen. YMMV

I would like to know if anyone has even thought about how to prevent the government from becoming an effective monopoly in health care, as it will be nearly impossible for a private company which must worry about profit and lawsuits to compete.

It feels like these US satellite providers has stopped their development at the same time Armstrong landed on the moon; in Japan you can get 155MB (personal) and 1,000MB(!!!!) for business over the satellite. And the morons from the US companies think they can sell us their 3rd world technology for big bucks!

Hopefully WiMax and LTE will be competitive enough in rural areas that these Sputnik-era guys find something better to do than sell the ancient technology to the American people.

The reason I think the town hall protesters are being "undemocratic", Jim, is because they're disrupting the talks. I would have no issue if they protested outside and expressed their opinions in the meeting. But, disrupting the meeting and not allowing anyone to speak does nothing but gum up the process and prevent the issue from being resolved.

Well, let me make it clear that I don't think that these town hall protesters are being at all undemocratic. Their opposition - even though I think it's not founded in reason, or even purely about health care - is entirely democratic.
